Troubleshooting a Flickering Lamp
Step-by-step diagnosis before you call for repair.
Swap the bulb
Start with the cheapest variable and check that the bulb is fully seated.
Test another outlet
This rules out a failing receptacle or a loose circuit connection.
Wiggle test the cord
Flicker that follows cord movement means an internal break.
Check the socket tab
A flattened centre contact tab stops the bulb from seating; it's a common, fixable cause.
Know when to stop
If none of the above resolves it, the fault is internal and needs bench work.
When to call a professional
Anything involving internal wiring, heat, arcing or a valuable antique is worth a professional opinion. Our estimates are free, and we'd rather tell you a lamp is fine than have you guess. Call (303) 895-0782 or request a quote.
