Troubleshooting a Flickering Lamp

Step-by-step diagnosis before you call for repair.

Swap the bulb

Start with the cheapest variable and check that the bulb is fully seated.

Test another outlet

This rules out a failing receptacle or a loose circuit connection.

Wiggle test the cord

Flicker that follows cord movement means an internal break.

Check the socket tab

A flattened centre contact tab stops the bulb from seating; it's a common, fixable cause.

Know when to stop

If none of the above resolves it, the fault is internal and needs bench work.
